Slow Down, Perceive, Connect

“Hello, I am Yesong(Deborah)Li, a high school student with a passion for exploring the connection between art, nature, and human experience. My creative process begins with observation, taking time to slow down and immerse myself in the details often overlooked in our fast-paced world. Through each piece, I strive to capture moments of tranquility and discovery, inviting viewers to see the beauty in the ordinary and the extraordinary alike.”

Overview

"Slow Down, Perceive, and Connect" is my response to the fast-paced demands of our modern world. This portfolio aims to invite its audience to explore the art of mindful observation and uncover the hidden beauty within everyday environments, whether natural or urban.

As we become more consumed with progress and development, we often overlook the genuine beauty of the world, missing the subtle details that can make our lives extraordinary. One of my favorite authors, G.K. Chesterton discovered this loss. He mentioned how modern society has traded the "ancient instinct of astonishment" —the natural sense of wonder and amazement at the world for a focus on advancement and rationality. Many people lose the childlike sense of awe that once came naturally. Each project discovers unique perspectives of perception, observation, and discovery, inviting people to see how taking a moment to slow down allows us to truly perceive and connect with our world.
